Look back at any of my strobed shoots and you'd see me using Photoflex light modifiers to shape and mold my light. I bought my very first softbox back in 1987, a Photoflex LiteDome (although battle-worn, I still use that same box today), and their products have served me well ever since. They've almost always been attached to a Speedotron Black Line system (big, heavy powerpack with individual heads), but since my 20 year old strobes have lately been dying a slow and ofttimes painful death, Photoflex's announcement of a new line of mono-light strobes was a welcome opportunity to try something new. Strobes are a first for the company, and there are 3 in this new lineup: the 300, the 650, and the 1000, named for their respective power watt/seconds. I received the biggest and most powerful one in the lot a couple months back- the Starflash 1000- and was finally able to run it through my paces. The first thing I noticed picking up the strobe is the rugged, tank-like construction. The impressive main body is built of extruded aluminum with a rubberized coating and weighs in at a solid 8 pounds. Each model has a different color coating; red for 300, blue for 650, and black for 1000. At first new business advice lance this seems purely cosmetic, but according to the designers its purpose is to help differentiate fill, background, and mainlights on your set. Not a bad idea. The swivel stand adapter mounts on a rail along the bottom length of the casing, and easily removes for transport.

Has you ever experienced something as a result of a series of such random events that it can only have been destiny? This morning I went to put on the stretchy jeans that I wear, um, every day and remembered I'd put them in the wash basket (actually, they went of their own accord), but hadn't yet washed them. So I had to put on my exceedingly baggy jeans. Later I invited David's mum to lunch. Once we'd collected Harry, it was pretty warm and she said it would be better to go to her house because she had frozen food from Morrisons. At her house I was sitting on the patio having a drink and Harry was running around the garden. He kept bringing me things and then, after a while, he wanted to show me a little windmill, but he couldn't get it out of the ground. So I crossed the lawn and sat on a bench near the windmill. By then grandma had pulled the windmill out check your credit or him and he brought it over to me to blow. I leaned forward to blow it and... A bird pooed down the back of my jeans. Now does anyone know why a bird pooing down my jeans is my destiny?

I am sorry I have not been blogging much lately. As you know I had a tech melt down. (God sent a lightening bolt to tell me it was time to update my equipment and software). log off do appreciate all of the advice I have received on this. It is not so much that I have not be able to blog about the subject we all love best. I have been busy trying to make a living, as all of you do, getting my children ready for college and law school come August and replacing computers phone systems, etc.. It has left little time. I have court out of town for the next couple of days, but I should be back with you soon.

This is another thing I learned about from Capitalism and Arithmetic . It's a way to check arithmetic. The ways we are taught to check our math are usually pretty lousy: the dim bulbs in the school emphasize doing the math over again (as if we are incapable of making the same mistake twice). Casting out nines is easy, quick, and won't generally put you in the position to make the same mistake twice. The exception to that is that it won't catch a transposition error. Of course, most people use a calculator. They use this as a convenient excuse not to check their work. Fortunately, casting out nines works on a calculator as well. Here's how it works for addition. Suppose you have to add 5,059 to 9,004 and 4,790. If you add those up the traditional way you'll get 18,853. What you do is take all the digits "above the line", that is : 5 0 5 9 9 0 0 4 4 7 9 0 Now, "cast out the nines", that is delete them to get: 5 0 5 0 0 4 4 7 0 You can delete the zeros too, to get: 5 5 4 4 7 Now add those up, casting out nines as you go. To do this, you penny stocks free list ould 1) recognize that a 5 and a 4 sum to 9, or 2) recognize that 5 and 5 sum to 10 (which is more than 9). In the first case, you'd just delete the 5 and 4. In the second one, you'd remove the 9 from the 10 leaving 1. Either way, what you are left with is 7. This is clearly different from the traditional addition you did to get an answer.
